Chris Reistroffer came to my school a couple days ago. He is a famous Sioux Falls, South Dakota Photographer that has been all over the world.

See my last Journal fryerock.deviantart.com/journa…

He was one of the coolest people i have met, my friend even said that he looked like a boy version of myself. I had to laugh because we were similar: excited about photography and geeking out. And when he mentioned the Ninja Turtles...
"I'm still going to go home tonight and play xBox and drink chocolate milk."

He's also a Canon man, and I'm Canon too. :D
"Who's Canon?"
*Raise my hand along with 2 other people*
"Now who's Nikon?"
*most of the class raises hand*
"Ah the darkside.  Just kidding"

After the class dispersed I gathered up the courage to ask him questions that i had ready.
during this time he played Skrillex and he said something inspiring, and I swear the world went in slow mo.

In your bio you said you couldn't draw and photography was your art form: did you have any obstacles because of this? (I can't draw myself)

Are you a freelance photographer? If so what is it like?
YES

How do you find clients?

What school did you go to and what did you study?
***He actually went to pre-law school. One time when he making a presentation he used his own photos instead of stock photos. His teacher thought that he was studying the wrong thing, and set him up with an internship with a newspaper photographer.
He said that the best thing to do is practice and watch other photographers. Hopefully I could shadow him next year!!

Where did you go after school?
***A newspaper company told him no. From then on he decided to do freelance.

What is your favorite kind of thing to shoot?
***Concerts because he loves the concert vibe. He said to always stay professional even when your client is famous. That is something that I need to work on. lol ^_^; He then told me that he took pictures of Family Force 5 (one of my favorite bands). The first one of Soul Glow Activator is when he started loving to take pictures of concerts. www.reistrofferdesign.com/ente…
He told me about Skrillex and how he is a cool guy and how to learn the rules before breaking them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As you can see I didn't have time to ask him all of my questions. Frankly, I could of stood there for hours talking to him.
After this whole experience I now know what I want to do with my life.
I was looking at my future self. :D
step one: get a better camera
step two: get inspired
step three: never give up
"I'm not a photographer. I'm an artist." the phrase that i lived by before and now after i met him.
"No matter what your clients want always put a little bit of you in it."
My photojournalism teacher got a well-known photographer to come and speak in class. I could not be more excited and pumped. My teacher said to have questions ready, then she looked at me, and, as the Photo Geek I am, I typed out questions to ask. His photography is a mix of things like Modeling, Weddings, concerts, and commercial. He has been in the crowd at a Skrillex concert, and waiting for a train to zoom by, only to get the best shot ( www.reistrofferdesign.com/mode… ).
I believe he is from where I live (which is a big accomplishment for anyone to lives here to be that well-known).
His pictures of the concerts inspires me to take pics of my favorite bands at LifeLight 2012!
He comes to my class tomorrow so I will let you guys know how it goes!
Robert Doisneau
1 min read
Google's new featured "google doodle" honors Robert Doisneau for his birthday. He would have been 100. Robert Doisneau was a french photographer that i havent heard of until now. His photos that were placed in the "doodle" were wonderful and cute.
see them here: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=…
I read a few of the things he said about his work and they sound very inspiring.
"The marvels of daily life are exciting; no movie director can arrange the unexpected that you find in the street."
"I don't photograph life as it is, but life as I would like it to be."
I have to always remember to dream when I take pictures, just like Donisneau did.
He did also get sued for one of his pictures just because the lady wanted to be compensated for the street picture. It is sad that she just didn't admire the fact that she was a worthy subject, and just leave it alone.
As you may have seen around DA, The Art Institute sounds like an amazing school. I hope to go there after high school for photography and digital art. There is a scholarship for photography and Lately my Photojournalism teacher has assigned the class with the same assignment. I just worked on most of the pictures today with my friend as a model.
Most of them took place in our mall and that was fun watching out for people who worked there. for some reason they dont like photographers... but i did it anyways.
I will work hard on this and then i will work even HARDER on the actual thing!
wish me luck!
Recently I have been thinking of getting a new camera.  I have my heart set on the Canon T3i but then I look at the wonderful pictures on DevaintArt and most of them are the Canon 60D. I am gonna use this for collage one day and need the best camera for a price that I can handle.
I am thinking of selling my camera (my baby :tears: ) so I can make a little extra for it. I don't want what happened last time to happen again. [ I got the affordable camera and not the best. If i would of waited a little longer i could of gotten a t2i but i got the Canon SX30 IS superzoom point and shoot.]
So should I go with the Canon T3i and upgrade to the next best thing before I go to collage?[ which is in a year or so and I plan to go to the Art Institutes. ] OR a canon 60D so I can start on great pictures now, and have a great camera leading into collage and then sometime in the middle in collage, upgrade?
I haven't done much research on either camera, but i have played with the t3i in the store. :XD:
Thank you!
